The Daily Shift – August 25, 2016

The summer heat is causing everything to go a little slower, including the writers on Shift’s team. So, without further ado, here’s a look at what caught our interest today.

First, the on-again, off-again income tax initiative in Olympia may yet be on, as supporters are planning to appeal to judge’s ruling (from yesterday) that the initiative was not legal as would be removed from the November ballot. However, legality has never been something to stop the liberal quest for a state income tax.

Consistency is also the watchword for Jay Inslee, as in he consistently fails to show up for governing. A review of his August 8-14 calendar revealed just 10 hours and 45 minutes of official business – and a whole lot of fundraising on what could be called company time. Wonder if all state employees get the same schedule flexibility?

Flexibility is also important for Hillary Clinton, as in the flexibility to pretend she is against big-money in politics, while benefiting from millions of dollars worth of attack ads from her billionaire friends. And speaking of big money, Sound Transit certainly knows how to rake it in, by asking companies and unions that will benefit from the spending in their $54 billion dollar scheme to contribute to the ST3 campaign. And who are they to say no…after all, it’s other people’s money that they’ll be spending.
