The Daily Shift – 12/22/15

Continuing our series on the year’s most underreported stories, Shift examined how House Democrats have been slowly losing ground to Republicans over the last seven years. Democrats are now down to a bare 50-48 majority, thanks to better candidate recruitment by the GOP and a total focus on tax increases by Democrats. We also highlight some foundational problems with Gov. Jay Inslee’s tax increase proposals.
Shift investigated Jay Inslee’s absence at four important meetings on education funding. We take a look at his calendar to find out what was more important than working with legislators to meet the McCleary decision. You might be surprised what Inslee considered a better use of his time.
