The elections are in the rearview mirror, and the debates over the next legislative session have started heating up – with liberals already setting the table for the tax increases they need to keep their special interest donors happy.
Fortunately for taxpayers, the Majority Coalition Caucus – 24 Republicans and 1 Democrat – will continue to rule the State Senate, while Frank Chopp appears set to remain Speaker of the House with the same 50-48 majority he “enjoyed” last session. And the terminally ineffectual Jay Inslee will continue sleepwalking through the hardly rigorous governor’s schedule which we resumed highlighting this week on Shift.
We continued to share some election insights last week, ranging from GOP dominance of late election returns to the complete absence of electoral coattails for Inslee. We also took another look at how Seattle’s far-Left council continues to waste your money on their favorite schemes.
And though the scheme to create an income tax in the city of Olympia failed, taxpayers will have to dig into their wallets for the next quarter century to fund what is certain to be a bloated and wasteful Sound Transit light-rail program. And maybe, by 2041, our kids can take the train to Ballard.
