Last Week Today – November 13, 2016

The 2016 election has mercifully come to an end across the country – though not in Washington State, as votes are still being tallied. And those votes will dictate whether the State House is tied at 49 (if GOP candidates in the 19th and 30th districts continue to close the gap), or the Democrats have a 51-47 advantage (which is where the numbers currently stand), and whether Majority Coalition Caucus has a 25-24 margin in the Senate, or remains at its 26-23 pre-election level.

For the last few days, Shift has been providing some insights into the election  – from the disastrous Obama legacy of a Democrat Party that has seen its numbers of elected officials greatly diminished in Washington, D.C. and in state capitols across the country, to the largely status quo outcomes in our state.

Additionally, the protests of Donald Trump’s election have brought out the usual publicity hounds in Seattle, from Socialist Councilwoman Kshama Sawant to Seattle Mayor Ed Murray. Gee, wasn’t it the Democrats who were attacking Republicans before Nov. 8 for even questioning the legitimacy of an election that hadn’t been concluded?

And don’t even get us started on Harry Reid – who is even being rebuked by Senators from his own party for his anti-Trump tirade. Thankfully, he’ll be slinking back to Nevada soon, into the oblivion he deserves.
