Friends,
Last week, we continued our series on the Top 10 most underreported stories of 2015. Perhaps the most ridiculous story came courtesy of our green governor who, just last month told an out-of-state newspaper that Washington State was a “victim of corporate extortion” by Boeing in reference to “the Boeing tax bill” passed in 2013. According to Inslee and other liberals, Boeing extorted $8.7 billion from our state.
Of course, at the time, lawmakers from both parties praised the tax break as a measure meant to ensure 777X production stayed in our state, thus keeping billions in manufacturing value, thousands of jobs, and billions in tax revenue in the state. That positive sentiment quickly ended for liberals, as Inslee demonstrated by his extreme comments.
Inslee’s comments reveal his extremely partisan “leadership” style. Like other liberals, Inslee cites the $8.7 billion figure disingenuously to fit the political purposes of the far left. The reality is that the state did not give Boeing money.
Instead, it was a tax incentive meant to encourage a company to stay in state and generate some $22.3 billion in tax revenue for state and local governments. It was not the government handout that Inslee and other Democrats want the public to believe.
As we pointed out, you cannot be extorted from (a) money that isn’t yours and (b) money that would have never been yours.
We are here to shine a light on the Left’s anti-business agenda, reporting stories the mainstream media chooses to ignore. But, we cannot do it without your support.
Please make a year-end contribution today and help us finish 2015 strong!
Thank you,
The Shift Team
