Team –
Last week, schools across the state opened their doors for the start of the new school year. More schools will kick off this week—unless, of course, the local teachers’ union has decided to strike…illegally.
Illegal teachers union-led strikes have, sadly enough, become a standard expectation for the start of the school year, disrupting working families and negatively impacting children. Due to an illegal teachers’ strike, the Pasco School District has thus far canceled four days of school. South Whidbey teachers went on strike Thursday with schools scheduled to start September 8th. And, this week, the Seattle teachers’ union members voted to illegally strike if the labor bosses and school district negotiators fail to reach a contract agreement by September 9th, the start of the school year.
Teachers’ unions organize illegal strikes at the start of the school year in order to get maximum exposure for their demands. They do not care that their actions cause undue disruption to working families and harm students.
Now, due to the state Supreme Court’s decision ruling charter schools unconstitutional on Friday, parents will no longer be able to turn to a viable alternative. A total of eight charter schools are set to open this month, it is unknown what will happen to these schools. What is known is that—after considering the case for a year—an activist, left-leaning court waited until the Friday before a long holiday weekend to hand down a decision that wipes out a voter-approved measure.
You can depend on Shift to continue exposing the selfish ambitions of teachers’ unions and the motives of our left-leaning state Supreme Court in the coming weeks.
