The state Supreme Court has slapped a $100,000 per day fine on taxpayers for what it views as the state’s failure to move fast enough toward meeting the requirements of the McCleary decision the justices handed down in 2012. The Court’s impatience ignores the fact that state lawmakers, led by the Republican Senate majority, pumped $1.3 billion more into our public schools during the 2015 legislative session.
The far Left has been quick to attack Republicans, blaming them for the court’s decision and conveniently forgetting the fact that Democrats have been chronically underfunding public education for a generation, as a Democrat governor has signed every state budget since 1985. But, in a more sinister twist, Democrats are already using the liberal court’s order as an excuse to suggest imposing their party’s “guiding principle”—a state income tax—is the only answer.
It’s important that we continue to shine a light on Democrats’ obsession with imposing a state income tax. You can count on Shift to continue doing just that.
