The 2015 legislative cycle did not go Jay Inslee’s way. Our green governor did not get a single one of his top agenda items, including major tax hikes and extreme green policies, through the legislature.
That reality has angered some Democrats. Many are not happy about the no-new-taxes budget and they are really not happy that lawmakers did not adopt the extreme green policies that were being pushed by special interests from the Washington Conservation Voters to the Sierra Club. Unfortunately for Inslee, they are making their disapproval known, so, he has taken steps to appease them by calling for new taxes in the next legislative session.
When Inslee wrapped up the third special session by calling for future tax increases, Democrats latched on to the opportunity to—once again—champion a state income tax. And already, far-left groups are coordinating their message to push the tax that has been rejected repeatedly by Washington voters.
Shift is committed to shinning the light on Democrats’ latest attempt to create a state income tax. You can count on us to remain diligent. Can we count on your support?
