Four weeks from today, the advertising (for politics) will end (for awhile), and we’ll have a better idea whether the voters have left much money in our wallets for holiday presents (and maybe even a Thanksgiving turkey). In Shift today we focus on a few issues that will impact how much money government will be taking, versus how much taxpayers will be keeping.
Chief on the “takers” list is the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which is investing over $1 million of the dues money it takes from members (who have no choice in paying those “dues”) in an attempt to buy a state legislative majority that will raise taxes next year. Also stretching their collective hands out are the folks running Sound Transit – and those hands want to be in your pockets forever, paying for the $54 billion plan known as ST3. And finally, the Democrats down in Thurston County want to take money from noted bigot JZ Knight, but they sure don’t want any of it to go to candidates who support free trade – like Democrat Senator Patty Murray and Congressman Denny Heck, for instance.
Hold on to your wallets…
