The Daily Shift – November 16, 2016

The team here at Shift continues to be surprised by the resilience of the Seattle City Council, despite the shellacking that Democrats have taken at all levels of government across the country in recent years. Thanks to the economic engine that is Amazon, city leaders have seen ever-increasing revenues through no fault of their own, and that has allowed them to raise taxes and increase regulations on the job-creating businesses that have fueled the economy.

And, as we highlight today, they are considering another heaping helping of taxes, based on the number of workers a business employs in Seattle. To help the big labor donors that fund their campaigns.

Almost as bizarre is the news out of D.C. that non-Democrat Bernie Sanders was elevated to a position on the Senate Democrat leadership team. Evidently being a Socialist is good enough to make that “team.”

Finally, Jay Inslee showed he was “good enough” to win re-election, but not actually able to bring any legislative Democrats along with him for the wild ride that will be the 2017 legislative session. Maybe if he campaigned out of Seattle next time?
