The Daily Shift – December 23, 2016

The holiday season is in full swing as we reach the end of another work week. Heading into the Christmas weekend, the Shift team has a few loose ends to wrap up before we finish our shopping.

First, we finally feature a couple of articles today that were originally written Tuesday, but which somehow disappeared into the digital ether (do I hear “user error” being mentioned?) that is a feature of Windows 10. We referenced the articles – about the “Hate Free Zone” protest and Peter Goldmark’s waste of taxpayer money to jet around the Northwest – in our Daily Shift that day, so figured we better actually publish them.

Second, we highlight how that early week protest has played out over the least few days, and how that is not making Mayor Ed Murray very happy. At least he can be thankful that, while public safety issues are not what he is running for re-election on, he is not in charge of Jay Inslee’s Department of Correction, which is still having problems determining how long it should keep prisoners in jail.

Also having some security problems is the non-profit in charge of protecting the information of Medicaid recipients in our state. Evidently over 6 weeks ago internet hackers accessed the personal information – including Social Security numbers – of several hundred thousand Washingtonians. So, just in time for Christmas, the people were told of the security breach this week.

Oh well, better late than never, eh?
