Given the way that Democrat leaders continue to sing its praises and assure us it is only a matter of time until everybody loves it as much they do, liberals must have been celebrating the fourth birthday of Obamacare yesterday. I imagine they celebrated by cancelling insurance policies and crashing web sites just to bring back the good old days of their favorite bill, which was jammed through Congress on a party-line vote four years ago. For those who need to refresh their memory of just how wrong the Democrats were about the likeability of their partisan action, recall these words from a leading Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer: “I think as people learn about the bill, and now that the bill is enacted, it’s going to become more and more popular.” Schumer said this on NBC’s “Meet the Press” in March 2010!
I wonder if Sen. Schumer has a theory about why enough people haven’t learned enough about Obamacare to love it like he does, despite the hundreds of millions in spending to promote the law in the last four years. Of course, in our state, the crack team running the Washington Health Benefit Exchange remains under fire for being unable to answer a basic question – how many previously uninsured Washingtonians are now insured thanks to Obamacare? When asked that question, the CEO of our exchange told a Senate committee “that’s a harder number for us to get. We’re trying to get that.” What we all know, even those being kept in the dark at the state exchange, is that the promises made about Obamacare turned out to be false, young people are refusing to sign up for insurance in the numbers need to keep the exchanges solvent and insurance rates (and cancellations) are expected to explode later this year .
Oh well, I guess that still isn’t enough to keep liberals from celebrating happy birthday for Obamacare. Though, a number of them aren’t expected to be remaining in Congress for the next birthday.
