Legislators know that not all votes are created equal, which allows them to put a bright spotlight on ones which are popular with voters (like the Real Hope Act) while assuming that others will avoid detection – like ones brought up without public notice at 10:45 on a Friday night.
However, thanks to the work of Jason Mercier of the Washington Policy Center, liberal House Speaker Frank Chopp and Ross Hunter, the Appropriations Chair carrying out his marching orders, are getting a little more attention for their late-night, budget busting shenanigans.
The latest addition to Mercier’s accountability effort is getting Democrat State Treasurer Jim McIntire on record as saying that the Chopp-Hunter “gimmick is unacceptable.”
So maybe now reporters will start adding this bill to its high-profile legislative coverage, because deficit government spending has to be at least as important as abortion mandates and minimum wages, right?
