You can call it the tipping point – when Seattle Times columnist Danny Westneat says that so-called progressives want to raise too many taxes all at the same time. From the biggest property tax boost in city history for a new Parks District, to a sales tax and car tab increase to subsidize bus fares, to an undefined small business tax to fund a minimum wage increase, Westneat is worried that some Seattleites might be in ‘a “we want it all, we want it now” binge’.
He says all this taxing mania on the part of liberal Seattle politicians may test “the old axiom that Seattle has never met a tax it doesn’t like” – though perhaps he is forgetting for a moment the liberals’ last attempt at early learning funding , the failed espresso tax?
