California extreme “green” billionaire Tom Steyer is determined to make a big impact on the 2016 elections—despite his expensive and lackluster results in 2014. This week, Steyer and other top liberal donors—operating under the umbrella of George Soros’ Democracy Alliance—will meet in Washington D.C. to discuss their 2016 strategy.
The secretive confab will feature Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Gina McCarthy, representatives from extreme green groups and Steyer himself delivering presentations.
The ultimate purpose of the meeting is to detail “initiatives to which the Democracy Alliance is recommending its members donate to elevate climate change on the national agenda.” According to the meeting agenda, Steyer plans to help that process along by touting his plans for 2016 efforts, particularly on how the election “can be a step toward a longer-term plan towards progressive governance.”
The Democracy Alliance’s 2020 Vision plan includes fighting climate change as a major theme. The group re-vamped its efforts last year with the creation of the Democracy Alliance Climate Fund, developed to “steer cash to groups fighting for environmental causes and candidates in key states.” Additionally, according to Politico, the group’s 2020 Climate Fund will “invest in local and state organizations with an eye toward boosting their advocacy and organizing capabilities, while continuing to funnel money to larger groups like the Sierra Club and the League of Conservation Voters.”
As signaled by Steyer—one of the most influential members of the Democracy Alliance—those “key states” and “local and state organizations” include Washington State and certain extreme “green” organizations operating in our state.
No doubt Jay Inslee has more than proved his dedication to the Democracy Alliance and, more specifically, Steyer’s extreme green goals and will act as a more than willing partner in helping the group achieve its goals. But, just who are these in-state “green” groups that will most likely benefit from the Democracy Alliance’s funds?
In order to answer that question, you need not look farther than the Progress Alliance of Washington—the secretive, state-level copycat of the Democracy Alliance. Not much is known about the Progress Alliance, which operates as a liberal dark-money network in our state. Unfortunately, other than Shift’s own efforts, only one member of the mainstream media has bothered to do any research on Progress Alliance as well. However, that research did reveal that at least $8 million has flowed through the secret group and into Democrat campaigns.
The activities of the Democracy Alliance and our state’s own Progress Alliance displays the stunning hypocrisy of Democrats who consistently attack the influence of big-money in politics except when that money is their own.
The extreme “green” agenda is not the only plan of action the Democracy Alliance plans to discuss this week. According to Politico, the group of wealthy liberal donors will also meet with leaders of the Black Lives Matter movement and their allies “to discuss funding the burgeoning protest movement.” It’s a glimpse into just how far the liberal donor group will go to become the relevant player in the 2016 election.
