The Democrats favorite filer of frivolous lawsuits – Knoll Lowney – is in the news (if not court) again, complaining that Seattle officials gave a document about a pre-kindergarten initiative to reporters, instead of first sharing it with the union that has a competing plan (and pays Lowney’s fees).
Lowney is well-known for filing lawsuits against Republicans during campaigns, and then not pursuing the baseless complaints after he has secured headlines for his union backers to use in negative attacks against said Republicans.
In this case, SEIU 925 is mad that the Seattle City Council won’t roll over on the pre-kindergarten issue like it did on the minimum wage for a different SEIU local. The majority of the Council appears willing to push slightly back on SEIU, offering subsidies (paid for by a property tax increase) for all Seattleites to send their kids to pre-K classes, but not necessarily raising the pay for all of SEIU 925’s members.
We’ll see if this is the beginning of the city council growing a spine to stand up to SEIU pressure, or just a temporary condition.
