Bernie Sanders won every single county in Washington State. In fact, the socialist who refuses to identify as a Democrat trounced the party’s favored nominee, Hillary Clinton with 72.7% of the vote.
Sanders’ victory entitled him to the lion’s share of Washington’s 101 delegates allocated by the caucus vote. However, thanks to the fact that the Democrat Party isn’t all that democratic, Clinton did not walk away empty-handed. By every indication, she has our state’s 17 unpledged “superdelegates” in her pocket.
These so-called “superdelegates” include Governor Jay Inslee, U.S. Sens. Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray, all six Democrats in the state’s U.S. House delegation, and certain state party leaders.
Naturally, the chance that Clinton may win the nomination due to the support of superdelegates has Sanders supporters rather upset. Given his wide-margin win (not to mention sizeable financial support), Washington State has become ground-zero for Sanders’ supporters protesting against superdelegates’ support of Clinton.
It appears that Inslee has had enough of the public backlash following his previous endorsement of Clinton. Our green governor finally announced he would lead the charge of making the Democrat Party a little more democratic by supporting Bernie Sanders, given his constituents’ overwhelming support of the socialist candidate.
Inslee said:
“Hillary Clinton’s obsession with putting Wall Street in her pant suit pocket is concerning. It reminds me of how, long ago, people needed oil from endangered white whales that lived in the great blue ocean. And, a certain person got really obsessed with catching one great white whale in particular. Errrr, that’s what Wall Street is to Clinton… She is the catcher that needs to catch the big whale. Anyway, another reason for my support is that some people who support Bernie Sanders have been really mean to me lately. And, I’d like that to stop.”
Happy April Fools’ Day!
