Governor Jay Inslee’s press office likes to get as much attention as they can for his official activities, to make it look like he is actually working at his job – which as Shift reported in December – doesn’t happen all the time. So, when he visited Destiny Charter Middle School in Tacoma on Friday, his PR handlers went straight to social media with this tweet:
It’s interesting to note that Inslee conveniently left out the small detail that the school he visited is, in fact, a public charter school. Either his staff did not tell him (a possibility, since Inslee often seems incapable of figuring out such details on his own), or he is trying to hide it from his multi-million dollar donor, the Washington Education Association (WEA).
Last week, the state Senate passed a bill that would keep public charter schools alive in our state, as voters intended when they passed the charter school initiative in 2013. Inslee has yet to take a public stance on the issue, although he has parroted the WEA on charter schools in the past. He has even failed to defend the school from absurd attacks leveled by some Democrat lawmakers.
So, the question remains: Will our “green” governor promise to support legislative bills to keep public charter schools open?
Maybe his staff could ask him.
