“Sleazy actions getting excused; absolutely no repercussions.”
That’s how KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson recently described what he called the “shocking similarities” between Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) Director Scott Kubly and presumptive Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s respective corrupt actions and subsequent slap-on-the-hand dismissals.
The similarities come into play when considering the excuses both politicians have used for their actions. Much like Clinton, Kubly claims to have “inadvertently emailed a conflict of interest statement to himself rather than through the proper channels.” He then proceeded to convince the City of Seattle to purchase a failed bike-share company which he formerly worked for – clearly defined in Seattle’s ethics laws as a situation which required disclosure. “Nothing is his fault, everything is just an email gaffe,” Dori said. “He made mistakes, he didn’t understand the system. Lies to the taxpaying public. It’s shockingly similar (to Hillary Clinton).”
Dori describes Kubly’s violation as “illegally funneling” $160,000 from the taxpayers to his former employer. Dori alleges that Kubly will have a lucrative private sector job in the bike-share industry waiting for him once his days in the public sector are through. That’s why he’s been funneling them the taxpayer dollars, Dori argues.
“Unbelievably, in all the documents that are out today, the head of the ethics commission say, ‘Well he didn’t have any financial ties to that company,’” Dori said. “But of course it has always been my contention that he wasn’t doing this because of past ties, but because of future benefits.”
Of course, Clinton’s actions — and what she got away with — are much more serious as they involve national security. But, it is worthy to note that both cases have the same frustrating conclusion: both got away with lying to taxpayers and to the public with no serious repercussions.
It appears that, if you are a Democrat, it pays to be unethical and corrupt — your party will almost certainly excuse and/or cover-up for you.
