When Jay Inslee announced he would go his own way to raise our state’s energy prices by executive order, he promised it would reduce carbon emissions in Washington. As could be expected, his decision elicited praise from his extreme “green” supporters. But, it’s praise that plenty of Washingtonians do not share—and plenty more will fight back when they realize the expense and the uselessness of Inslee’s plan.
KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson reacted to Inslee’s announcement by simply pointing out what he has said in the past: Inslee’s extreme “green” agenda does not make any sense. The policies our green governor seeks to enact would result in higher costs for taxpayers and negatively impact out state’s economic competitiveness. But, they would do nothing to reduce carbon emissions. Via MyNorthwest.com,
“Now, I’ve talked to the governor about this before. Passing billions in taxes onto the citizens of this state when we are a tiny, tiny percentage, a fraction of one percent of the worldwide carbon emissions — it’s not about saving the environment.
“You can tax the citizens of Washington 100 percent and as long as China, India, and all of these other countries are pumping their carbon emissions into the atmosphere, it’s not going to make one bit of difference.”
Monson goes on to point out the crux of the matter: No one—not even Inslee and his extreme green supporters—actually believes a cap-and-tax scheme will make a difference. But, they don’t care. MyNorthwest.com,
“I don’t think anybody believes it’s going to make a difference. I don’t think the governor thinks it’s going to make a difference, but they see this as a way to exploit the ignorant among us. It’s just a lever for them to get more money from us.
“What they’re talking about is rolling it back a few years. Well, statistically, that makes zero difference on global climate emissions. And taxing the people of Washington billions of dollars for zero impact — they are just hoping…
“I fear that the media and the majority populous in this state are just knee-jerk reactionaries that they’ll accept it while not understanding that there is a cost of billions of dollars and a reward of zero, as far as helping the planet.”
Monson is spot on. Democrats do not actually believe that their extreme green policies will make a difference. But, they don’t care because—in the end—it’s not about reducing carbon emissions. It’s about even bigger government at the expense of taxpayers.
Back in April 2015, Shift reported on emails that exposed that disgraced former Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber’s staff knew their extreme green agenda would not impact carbon reduction but wanted to see it implemented anyway. You can check out that story here.
