Disgraced Democrat State Auditor Troy Kelley faces 17 indictments of criminal activity, the most serious of which carries a 20-year prison sentence. It is more than obvious that Kelley has lost the public’s trust. Yet, he refuses to resign.
Still more absurd is the fact that Kelley has not discounted himself from running for state auditor again. In fact, Kelley has filed as a candidate for reelection with the state Public Disclosure Commission. If Kelley does go through with his apparent plan to seek reelection, he will face steep competition in the form of GOP State Senator Mark Miloscia.
Miloscia announced his intention to run for state auditor “to bring back respect and leadership to an office that has been plagued with scandal and embarrassment” during Kelley’s tenure. Miloscia is the first person to formally announce his candidacy to replace Kelley. The News Tribune,
“Earlier this year, Miloscia invited Kelley to attend a hearing of the Senate’s Accountability and Reform Committee, which Miloscia chairs, to answer questions about ethics standards at the Auditor’s Office and the agency’s efforts to reduce fraud.
“Kelley did not attend, instead letting other senior staffers speak on the agency’s behalf.”
Democrat Kelley’s audacity to formally remain in office despite the corruption scandal has been astonishing. That he is, as of now, planning to seek reelection is beyond ridiculous.
