In an attempt to make their false claims appear valid, the Washington State Democratic Central Committee misleadingly cited the Associated Press as a source in its latest mailer attacking Sen. Andy Hill (R, 45th LD). A quick search of the supposed quote leads to the website of… the Washington State Democrats’ endorsement of Sen. Hill’s opponent, Matt Isenhower.
No story in any media outlet—including the Associated Press—contains any language, let alone any claim, cited by Democrats in the attack piece. However, interestingly enough, the same word choice and claim appear in an email sent by Washington Democrats Chair Jaxon Ravens endorsing Isenhower and asking recipients to support his bid for State Senate.
Democrats are desperate to disparage Sen. Hill’s proven record of prioritizing education. Back in April, SHIFT pointed out a similar case of Democrats’ desperation in the 45th Legislative District when Isenhower attacked Sen. Hill’s record in an op-ed piece that appeared in the Redmond Reporter.
The reality is that, with Sen. Hill as budget writer, the state budget re-prioritized spending and directed nearly $1 billion more toward K-12 schools without raising tuition at universities—for the first time in 30 years. The state budget prioritized education over non-education spending at a 4:1 ratio—again, for the first time in 30 years. By contrast, under the heavily Democrat-controlled budgets, the education over non-education spending ratio was 1:2 (that’s two dollars for bigger government for every new dollar of education funding).
SHIFT is committed to shinning the light on Democrats’ false attack ads. Thanks to the diligence of a SHIFT reader, we were alerted to this particular campaign mailer. So, if you see something let us know!
