Democrat State Representatives Larry Springer and Roger Goodman of the 45th Legislative District are holding a Town Hall meeting this Saturday, February 20th. They plan on first pretending to commiserate with I-405 commuters regarding the disastrous tolling scheme foisted upon their constituents by Jay Inslee’s transportation department, and then move on to specific topics of interest for each of the legislators, according to a flier mailed in their district.
While Rep. Springer plans to discuss education, it’s the topic that Rep. Goodman settled on that has us scratching our heads. Goodman’s plans to focus on: ending the cycle of domestic violence, protecting victims of sexual assault, and getting kids out of the criminal justice system.
These are all noble, extremely important issues that should never be diminished. The problem is not with the issues being discussed, rather it’s with the person who is discussing them.
You see, these topics all fit in Goodman’s struggle to re-mold his public image. Goodman is (once again) attempting to represent himself as a family-values sort of guy. It’s an image that, simply put, just doesn’t match up with reality.
As Shift has reported, Goodman has a long and tainted history with the law. Goodman’s unlawful marijuana use, particularly his ex-wife’s allegations that he drove their children while under the influence, became a serious cloud over his character. Since then, court documents have surfaced that point to Goodman’s misbehavior as an ongoing issue. As recently as August 2013, Goodman received an official court order to appear before a judge over his delinquent child support.
Yet, this is the same man who Democrats placed in charge of the House Public Safety Committee. And, it’s the same man who is now attempting to redefine himself using various tactics… including the topics he chooses to focus on during Town Hall meetings.
