Olympia Democrats are demonstrating once again that, for them crime is relative and just because you end up shooting someone you shouldn’t necessarily pay the price. According to Democrat Representative David Hackney, it probably wasn’t your fault, it was the fault of a racist, corrupt judicial system.
No really. House Bill 1324 (HB 1324) literally prohibits a court from including juvenile court convictions when considering sentencing crimes committed as an adult. This means, just as long as you don’t actually kill anyone when you are under 18 years old, the crime cannot be included as part of the “Three Strikes, You’re Out” law passed by the voters back in the 1990’s.
Now, Theresa Doyle, a retired Washington State Judge is weighing in and wants hardened gang members, who have committed multiple crimes, to have their sentences reduced because they were subject to peer pressure when they shot up their friends and neighbors. Using typical Democrat logic, the judge claims on one hand kids are not old enough to be held accountable for their criminal actions, and yet Democrats want kids to vote before they leave high school. Representative Bergquist even sponsored a bills to allow kids to vote at 16.
And that’s the premise of Hackneys “soft on crime” HB 1324. Democrats want to reduce penalties from crimes committed by minors and blame the judicial system for their actions.
If Rep. Hackney and the Democrats are successful in passing HB 1324, some of the 1,500 of Washington’s most-hardened criminals – gang leaders involved in multi-shooting, multi-felony actions – will have their sentences reduced and will be coming to a neighborhood near you.
In the meantime, Democrats are giddy about banning your ability to buy a gun to defend yourself when the criminals show up on your doorstep.
