There is perhaps nothing worse for a Democrat than to be compared to Donald Trump. Yet, that is the fallout from the King County Democrats’ vice chair, Omaha Sternberg, suggesting on KIRO radio that Seattle create an “island city for homeless people”. That novel idea prompted the liberal blog Publicola to write that Sternberg’s suggestion “sounds like something Donald Trump would say.”
And, of course, the Twitterverse exploded with the kind of breathless outrage that liberals reserve when one of their own strays from orthodoxy.
That forced Sternberg to clarify that her mythical floating city was “NOT internment camp, NOT required. Just an idea to talk about.”
And then the King County Democrat official tried to give her detractors a lesson in Twitter etiquette, typing “Twitter should be a place to discuss ideas, not hate on anyone for coming up with them.”
That tweet drew another Trump comparison from Publicola, implying that Sternberg was “sounding a bit like Trump lashing out at politically correct decorum.”
Given the outcry, one has to wonder how much longer Sternberg will continue to have an official voice – even on Twitter – as a Democrat party official.
