According to the liberal Center for Public Integrity, a Democrat-aligned “dark money” group known as Patriot Majority USA “collected half of the $30 million it raised last year from five anonymous donors.” The Center for Public Integrity,
“The biggest donor to the nonprofit gave $8.25 million, according to the new filing with the Internal Revenue Service, which lists the amounts received by Patriot Majority USA last year but not the donors’ names.
“Six other unknown donors gave seven-figure sums. One gave $2.7 million. Another gave $2.2 million. One gave $1.2 million. And three gave $1 million.
“About three-dozen other donors gave at least $100,000.”
Government filings also reveal labor unions’ big role on contributing to Patriot Majority USA. In 2014, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees gave the group $750,000, the American Federation of Teachers gave $550,000, the National Education Association gave $50,000, and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters gave $10,000.
The group proved to be a prominent player in Democrats’ failed attempt to retain control of the U.S. Senate during the 2014 election cycle, airing more than 15,000 attack ads on TV in key Senate races. Patriot Majority USA spent 40 percent (nearly $13.7 million) of the $34 million it raised in 2014 for “direct and indirect political campaign activities” in an attempt to defeat Republicans. The group is not required to release the names of its five big money donors.
Despite the clear partisan agenda of Patriot Majority USA, the group’s leader had the audacity to justify its work by claiming to be bi-partisan.
The fact that Democrats are so willing to take and use “dark money” for their political purposes, while lambasting the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2010 decision in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, exposes their stunning hypocrisy.
