When the Washington State Council of County and City Employees attempted to prevent 15 Thurston County employees from claiming their constitutional right to avoid paying for the union’s political activity, the Freedom Foundation stepped up and sued the union. Ultimately, the union settled the case and agreed to “pay back the money illegally taken from the employees” and to foot the legal bills. This year, the Freedom Foundation is at it again.
The Freedom Foundation is now suing Teamsters Local 117 on behalf of a group of Department Corrections workers for similar reasons. On the heels of the case, the Freedom Foundation has released a video featuring Beverly Pearson, one of the plaintiffs of the previous case.
