On Saturday, Democrats across our state met for congressional district caucuses in order to assign the state’s 101 delegates to presidential candidates at the Democratic National Convention. As one could expect, given the wackiness of Washington Democrat, Socialist Bernie Sanders won overwhelmingly.
Sanders will receive 74 delegates, while the presumptive Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton will receive 27.
Clinton, to say the least, isn’t a favorite among Sanders supporters in our state. Some attendees told the Olympian “they can’t envision voting for Clinton should she ultimately become the Democratic presidential nominee” and indicated they are not opposed to voting for a third party candidate.
Jay Inslee, a superdelegate who has pledged his support for Clinton, was — interestingly enough — silent on the voting preferences of his party’s activists. He did, however, post this on his Facebook page:
“Thank you Washington State Labor Council for your endorsement yesterday! I am grateful for the hard work your members do every day to make our state run.”
Though the post had nothing to do with the presidential race, it elicited quite a few amusing comments from Bernie supporters letting our green governor know exactly what they thought about his pledged support of Clinton.
