Washington Republicans in the state legislature suspected Jay Inslee of planning to issue a carbon tax via executive order months ago. The uncertainty caused by Inslee’s unknown plans managed to derail any hope for agreement on a transportation package during the 2014 legislative session.
Inslee proceeded to accuse Republicans of politically motivated fear-mongering. He downplayed the possibility of an executive order for a carbon tax.
Today, on Seattle Channel’s “Civic Cocktail” program, Inslee finally came clean and admitted that it he will “likely” implement a carbon tax without legislative approval.
