Last Week Today – December 5, 2016

Some semblance of normalcy returned last week, as the Thanksgiving leftovers finally ran out. We started getting fundraising emails from Jay Inslee again, his weekly schedule continued to show a decided lack of worth ethic from the newly re-elected “green” governor, and King County (and the rest of the state) finally finished counting all the ballots postmarked by November 8.

Shift shone a bright spotlight during the week on the Democrats’ plans for raising taxes in the next legislature, a process that will formally begin with the draft budget that Inslee is supposed to deliver to the public later this month. We also highlighted the fact that Inslee’s budget folks must determine if the state can afford the spendy new state employee contracts that Jay “negotiated” back when he was raising money from the state employee unions. If those contracts are included in the Inslee budget proposal, it will show a lack of seriousness on his part for dealing with increased public education spending without higher taxes.

We also looked a variety of ways that changes in Washington, D.C., will impact our Washington, from a possible reprieve from the EPA’s attack on the state’s business community (through new water regulations), to the repeal of Obamacare and its impact on our Medicaid spending.

Finally, Shift highlighted some of the ways that Seattle is moving even further to the Left, just in time for the celebration of last week’s “Disruption Tuesday”.

Enjoy the Christmas lights this week.
