The Daily Shift – November 30, 2016

Some might have thought that the election – the results of which will actually be certified in Washington State tomorrow – was a nasty fight not to be repeated any time soon, that we should celebrate having in the rear view mirror. Unfortunately for those who don’t like conflict, “elections have consequences” (as President Obama famously said when he was on the winning side), and in Washington State that means a divided legislature and a governor who “leads” from behind (if at all).

So today we look at how next year’s state budget fight has started this week, and won’t likely let up for another six-to-eight months.

We also highlight a couple national stories, including what might be last one (hopefully) featuring advice from Congressman Jim McDermott. Offsetting that distressing story is one pointing out that the nation’s teachers ignored their unions’ recommendation and voted for Donald Trump in the presidential election.
