The Daily Shift – November 18, 2016

Well, another week has gone by, and election results are still being counted…but the end is near (maybe).

Shift provides another lesson from the recent election today on a topic that has generated plenty of interest – and voter disapproval – over the years, a state income tax. This year liberals tried to get such a tax in through the back door, by passing it first in Olympia, and then having the State Supreme Court allow one statewide – but fortunately for taxpayers, even Olympia voters weren’t fooled by an income tax that starts out on “the rich.”

Liberals like Jay Inslee desperately want a capital gains income tax next year, so they don’t have to actually make public education the top priority of the state and perhaps reduce spending on their special interests friends. We highlight this week’s economic forecast, which shows hundreds of millions in additional revenue coming into the state in the next few years, but that’s not enough to slow Democrat demands for an income tax.

Also not slowing down is Sound Transit, in its efforts to destroy poor neighborhoods so the bureaucrats have room for their Seattle-centric train set. Folks in Kent and Federal Way are finding out that Sound Transit loves take other people’s property for big plans.

Finally, we return to highlighting Inslee’s “work” calendar today, covering the two weeks leading up to the election. Per usual, Jay wasn’t exactly earning his paycheck with actual governing.

 Enjoy your weekend.
