The Daily Shift– October 18, 2016

The election calendar keeps ticking down – and now we’re at three weeks to go, And with ballots going in the mail this week.

And that focuses more attention on the candidates and causes we’ll be voting on – and, as we publicize today, even allows Shift to acquire a regular gig on the radio (KVI 570) to talk about initiatives for the remainder of the week. Be sure to tune in – if you’re up at 6:35 in the morning!

If you’re sleeping in, at least you can read on Shift about the biggest tax increase on the ballot this year – or any year in Washington State for that matter. That is Sound Transit’s Regional Proposition 1, the $54 billion plan to spend 25 years not reducing congestion in the Puget Sound region.

People with plenty of money to throw around – like ultra-liberal Seattle billionaire Nick Hanauer – are looking beyond the Sound Transit counties to try and hurt the economy throughout the state by making Washington #1 again in minimum wage. Evidently Hanauer and his big labor buddies throwing their forced-union dues dollars at I-1433 don’t get out in the hinterland much, or they might realize that not every part of the state is humming along like South Lake Union.

Maybe if only a Sound Transit train could get them out there, someday.
