The Daily Shift– October 17, 2016

Well, Windmageddon 2016 has come and gone, so we can return our focus to trying to survive the hot air storm that is our campaign season. Just 21 days remain until the ballots begin to be counted.

At Shift today we highlighted the liberal money behind many of the sleazy ads we’ll be seeing in the coming days, and wistfully note the ongoing unwillingness of local media to look into the Democrats’ main source of “dark money” campaign cash, the Progress Alliance of Washington. Maybe someday, some reporter will decide that liberal billionaires (and mere millionaires) pumping money into an attack network to elect Democrats is worthy of some monitoring.

But don’t hold your breath.

Another thing not to hold your breath for is an improved “Mercer Mess” in Seattle, because after almost $80 million of “investment”, the city has improved congestion times on the corridor by 2 seconds. Or about as much time as it takes for Sound Transit to burn through a million dollars of your tax money, if the agency’s $54 billion dollar tax boondoggle passes.

And speaking of wasting money, Shift also takes a look at the income tax initiative on the ballot in Olympia this fall. Is this finally going to be the chance for Jay Inslee and his fellow Democrats to seize the holy grail of a state income tax? Stay tuned.
