Last Week Today – October 10, 2016

Featuring Jay Inslee almost putting in a full 40-hour week of official business and an internal Sierra Club fight over the carbon tax, last week on Shift we highlighted items we don’t normally see. But, by week’s end things were returning to normal, with a more recent Inslee calendar showing him back to fitting his usual 10 hours of actual governing in amongst his campaign fundraising duties.

But the ugly environmental (and organized labor) fight against Initiative 732 and its carbon tax showed no sign of slowing, with a particularly hard-hitting editorial from the State Labor Council President showing up last week, along with several national stories about the bizarre split in the “green” coalition because I-732 doesn’t raise taxes high enough.

Also not slowing down was the news about Sound Transit’s ‘War on Cars’ and on taxpayer wallets with its $54 billion dollar boondoggle known as Regional Proposition 1. The campaign to raise taxes for the 25-year construction plan also known as ST3 is intensifying, with the forces who benefit from the construction starting their multi-million dollar advocacy campaign (to line their pockets with public money).

For those waiting for the noise level to go down, remember, the general election is only 30 days away!
