The Daily Shift – September 23, 2016

Now that fall has officially started, the usual routine is setting in: the Mariners are slipping out of the playoff race, the Seahawks are stumbling against the Rams, and Sound Transit is making “mistakes.” Of course, as Shift highlights, those “mistakes” evidently don’t rise to the level of being called “violations” of state election law – like they were called last week – and thus the public bureaucrats at ST can breathe a collective sigh of relief and go on with their (unofficial) business of helping the campaign to raise $54 billion in new taxes.

Also celebrating in all things “unofficial” is “green” governor Jay Inslee, as we check out his calendar revealing almost 17 hours of work (and a near equal number of fundraisers). And, from the “yes, they are doing it again” file, a labor union is trying to intimidate a small Eastern Washington county out of actually letting the public watch negotiations involving taxpayer money. The union bosses can’t let that happen, or before you know it those pesky taxpayers might actually want to have a say in how much of their money is given away to public employees.
