On this Blue Friday, we bring to you the Ice Cream Wars over the minimum wage. Seems like in Seattle, a designer ice cream shop wants to pay its employees a $15 minimum wage – and they want everyone else to pay the same high wages. Yet in Federal Way, a local shop owner would prefer to continue giving teenagers their first job, and worries that a mandated minimum wage increase will prevent him from doing that.
Further South, we highlight another liberal feel-good idea being pushed in Olympia – a first-in-the-state local income tax – but it evidently embarrasses its sponsors, as they don’t want the ballot title to contain the words income tax. Also rather embarrassing is Jay Inslee’s latest work schedule, which featured an amazing four hours of work last week – you can read about only on Shift, as other media outlets evidently don’t mind that Inslee doesn’t put in too much time actually governing. Finally, we take a look at the next gubernatorial campaign, as current Attorney General Bob Ferguson appeared to kick that off with a media blitz this week.
Go Hawks.
