One has to be very flexible when you work for King County government. You must be willing to set aside any suburban sensibilities you might have – just ask Claudia Balducci, who used to represent Bellevue’s interests before she was elected to a courthouse position – in favor of whatever King County King, err, Executive Dow Constantine wants. That reality is in full display on Shift today, in our analysis of a rambling editorial written by Dow’s Deputy, former Mercer Island advocate Fred Jarrett. We also take a look at a couple other editorials – one from East of the mountains on the folly of I-732’s carbon tax, and the other from down south, on the folly of a city-imposed income tax in Olympia. Going even further South we look at the regulatory zealotry that is trying to stop the Millennium Bulk Terminals Project in Longview – and could have damaging impacts on the rest of the state’s economy if the regulators get their way.
