Loony far-left activists (think Councilwoman Kshama Sawant with a bandana covering her face) violently paraded through the streets of Seattle during their annual May Day demonstrations on Sunday. As could be expected, the protestors targeted police officers attempting to keep the peace.
The group’s Facebook page reads:
“As you all know, the May Day Anticapitalist March in Seattle has become an annual event where we march in rage against capitalism and the oppressive forces that seek to gentrify our communities and force the poor into everlasting homelessness, or death.”
According to the Seattle Times, by 10:30 p.m., at least five police officers had been injured and at least nine people had been arrested on charges of assault, property destruction, and obstruction.
One officer suffered a gash in his head after he was struck in the head by a rock. Another was struck by a Molotov cocktail, but was not burned. And, another officer was bitten — yes, bitten. Two officers were taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.
Despite the Lefties best efforts, police managed to curtail damage to private businesses. The Seattle Times reports:
“Unlike previous years, however, police quickly herded the mob of several hundred black-clad protesters out of Seattle’s business district, using a choreographed rolling blockade of bicycle officers and vans to shuttle cops in riot gear ahead of the crowd to cut off escape routes…
“Before the night was over, the protesters had been marched out of downtown and into the city’s Sodo industrial area, where fewer targets for destruction were available.”
This time around, Socialist Sawant did not get involved in the protests. Last year, Sawant made highly inflammatory statements that perpetuated the general feeling of animosity toward Seattle’s police and businesses prior to the May Day protest.
Sawant said, “The corporations and the super-wealthy are celebrating billions in profits while the rest of us face skyrocketing poverty and inequality…And we are fighting back… We must rely on our own strength. The Seattle Police have an unfortunate track record of violence and cracking down on activists and using pepper spray indiscriminately…”
Perhaps Sawant has since realized that “activists” who throw Molotov cocktails/bite police officers are not just her voters… they are criminals.
