Last Week Today – December 14, 2015

Team –

Last week, Shift revealed how Jay Inslee’s schedule in the days leading up to his trip to the United Nations climate conference in Paris was consumed by “personal time,” fundraising, and sometimes both in conjunction. In fact, Inslee’s “work” schedule featured a majority of the 50 hours he was on the clock for personal/fundraising time from Monday to the Friday when he left for Paris. He spent just 13-and-a-half hours on activities resembling gubernatorial business.

All those hours spent fundraising and planning for fundraisers must not have paid very well, because Inslee’s campaign went into desperate-fundraising overdrive last week. Inslee spent much of the week begging his supporters for money. Reaching what has to be a new record of desperation, Inslee sent out a whopping 15 fundraising emails – all warning his supporters of the “fundraising freeze” coming his campaign’s way on Saturday.

While Inslee may have spent a lot of time planning for his fundraising onslaught, not much time was spent making it remotely creative. Nearly all emails contained some reference to the Koch-brothers as a scare-mongering tactic – a hypocrisy in itself given how Tom Steyer’s deep pockets support our green governor.

Inslee and his campaign may not be happy about the fundraising freeze. But, we’re pretty certain supporters are cheering over the lack of desperate appeals hitting their inboxes.

We also have an end-of-month fundraising deadline to meet as we gear up for the 2016 legislative session. But unlike Inslee, we promise we won’t send you 15 emails. If you can chip in a couple bucks, we would be very appreciative.

Thank you,

The Shift Team
