Seattle Democrats refuse to learn their lesson when it comes to innovation, like that of the ride-share industry. It has become all too obvious that Democrats are doing everything in their power to appease their special interest donors and destroy companies like Uber and Lyft through heavy regulations.
And, it’s equally obvious that the public does not appreciate these attempts. But, in an effort to please labor unions, Democrats have not given up on their mission.
The most recent case of the Democrats’ vendetta against the ride-share industry comes courtesy of Seattle Mayor Ed Murray. During a panel discussion last week about traffic in the Puget Sound region, Murray suggested that Uber was causing traffic. Via the Puget Sound Business Journal,
“Murray said that while improving signal systems better could be one positive use of technology in transportation, apps such as Uber present new challenges in managing the city’s traffic.
“‘There’s some fears out there…that if you replace cars driving to work with (Uber) cars just driving around looking for rides, we could find ourselves in a challenging situation,’ he said. ‘Technology could actually make the problem worse unless we figure out managing it.’”
Looks like Democrats have a new line of attack against the ride-share industry: companies like Uber are somehow causing traffic.
Never mind that the service Uber provides is comparable to taxi services, and no one accuses taxis of causing traffic. And, never mind the fact that commuters opting for Uber rides arguably keep cars off the road. Or, that traffic was a serious concern in Seattle long before Uber came about. No, it’s innovation that is at fault here.
Or maybe innovative companies aren’t giving Democrat politicians like Mayor Murray enough money to offset what they get from unions.
