Having trouble deciding where to spend your money this weekend? Luckily for you, a spin off group of Working Washington called Support Seattle Workers has taken it upon themselves to publish a list of businesses in the Seattle area that support your right to vote on the minimum wage increase. The organization calls for a boycott of these local establishments because the owners would rather have voters—not the Seattle City Council and the Mayor’s office—decide an appropriate and reasonable minimum wage. The boycott targets businesses connected specifically with Forward Seattle, a group dedicated to increasing awareness about how small businesses will truly be affected by the $15/hour minimum wage. Currently, Forward Seattle is working to collect signatures for a ballot initiative in November that would give voters a say in the wage debate. If you support an open, voter-driven dialogue about the direction of Seattle’s economy, we invite you to spend some time and money at these local small-businesses this weekend and let them know that you support their work in protecting your voice.
Capitol Hill
Liberty Bar
Can we give an award for the best named bar supporting voting rights? If so, Capitol Hill’s Liberty Bar wins with their expansive liquor menu, scratch cocktails, and daytime coffee bar. And, by expansive, we mean that at any given time, they stock “85 Bourbons and Ryes, 100+ Scotch, Japanese, Indian, Irish and Canadian Whiskies, and a premium selection of 40+Gins, dozens of Vodkas, 50+ Tequilas and 20′ish fine Mezcals” in addition to several quality liquors that they make in house for their scratch cocktails. Liberty also offers a notable sushi menu and a daily happy hour.
