Perhaps nothing better demonstrates the liberal view of governing better than this phrase from an Associated Press story regarding a $4.4 million tax bill – paid “for the privilege of generating electricity in the state.”
In the case of Energy Northwest, the operator of Washington’s only nuclear power plant, the tax bill was its highest ever because it generated so much renewable energy last year.
Unfortunately, far-left environmentalists don’t like nuclear power, so it is not considered a renewable energy resource under state law.
But at least the customers of the state’s public power districts get to pay their share of this “privileges” tax so the state can give subsidies (read ‘more taxpayer money’) to the wind and solar power companies that give campaign contributions to the right Democrats – like Jay Inslee.
